Coatesville VA Medical Center Opens New Psychiatric Unit
Many Missing Out on Free Veteran Medical Benefits
Coatesville VA Medical Center cut the ribbon September 8, 2013 on a new $2.8 million state-of-the-art acute psychiatry inpatient unit on its campus on Blackhorse Hill Road.
The new 18,000-square-foot renovation, which provides an optimal environment for delivery of specialized psychiatric health care services and the latest life safety and security features, will replace the medical center’s current acute psychiatry unit that is located in a separate building.
The addition is designed to be able to provide additional services to veterans while, at the same time, the Veterans Administration continues to reach out to thousands of potentially-eligible area veterans, spouses and dependent children, who may be unaware of free medical benefits that may be available to them.
Officials report that 18,729 enrolled veterans were seen at the Coatesville VA Medical Center during the 2012 fiscal year, with a veterans population in Chester County alone numbering 30,231 at the end of the preceding year.
A Medical Benefits Orientation workshop is conducted from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. every fourth Thursday of the month in Room 107A, Building 2, at the Coatesville Center, 1400 Blackhorse Road, Coatesville. Registration is requested at (610) 384-7711 x6226.
Veterans also can contact an eligibility and enrollment specialist for a personal appointment at (610) 384-7711 x5008.
Veteran Service Office partners also will schedule individual appointments at (610) 384-7711 x4239 with veterans already enrolled for VA healthcare to help them file claims with the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), such claims often being related to education, compensation and pension, and home loans.
General information about qualifications, although veterans are encouraged to complete an application regardless to determine eligibility, along with an application form, are available at www.coatesville.va.gov/patients/eligibility.asp.
